Marc Cain Size Guide for Australian Women
If you're shopping Marc Cain for the first time, there's one detail that can cause a little confusion: the sizing.
Rather than the Australian sizes 8, 10, 12 and 14 you may be accustomed to seeing, many Marc Cain garments use the brand's distinctive N sizing system, running from N1 through to N7.
Once you understand the conversion, however, finding your Marc Cain size is relatively straightforward.
At Red Pearl, we've been dressing Australian women in Marc Cain for years, both in-store and online. We've put together this guide to help explain Marc Cain sizing in Australia, how the N sizing system works and what to consider when choosing your size.
Marc Cain Australian Size Chart
As a general guide, Marc Cain's N sizing converts to Australian women's sizing as follows:

Please note: This Marc Cain size chart should be used as a general guide. Fit can vary depending on the style, cut and fabrication of an individual garment. If you're unsure which size to choose, our Red Pearl team is always happy to help.
What Does N1, N2, N3 and N4 Mean in Marc Cain Sizing?
Marc Cain's N sizes are simply the brand's own sizing system.
For Australian shoppers, the easiest conversions to remember are:
- Marc Cain N1 = AU 6
- Marc Cain N2 = AU 8
- Marc Cain N3 = AU 10
- Marc Cain N4 = AU 12
- Marc Cain N5 = AU 14
- Marc Cain N6 = AU 16
- Marc Cain N7 = AU 28
So, for example, if you usually wear an Australian size 10, N3 is generally the Marc Cain size we'd suggest starting with.
The word starting is important.
Just as you might occasionally take a different size between two Australian brands, the best Marc Cain size can vary slightly depending on the garment.
Does Marc Cain Run True to Size?
As a general rule, Marc Cain tends to fit true to size, so your usual Australian dress size is a good starting point when using the conversion chart above.
However, we always consider the individual garment as well as the number on the label.
A fitted blazer is going to behave differently from a relaxed knit. A structured trouser may require a more precise fit than a style with stretch. An elasticated waistband, fluid fabrication or oversized silhouette may give you considerably more flexibility.
That's why when shopping Marc Cain online, it's worth reading the individual product description rather than relying on the size conversion alone.
And if you're shopping with us in-store, this is exactly where our team's knowledge of the collection becomes useful.
Marc Cain Sizing Can Vary Between Styles
One of the most important things to understand about clothing sizes - Marc Cain or otherwise - is that your size is a starting point, not a rule.
The cut, fabric and intended silhouette all influence how a garment fits.
When choosing your Marc Cain size, consider:
- Stretch: A fabric with elastane may offer more flexibility and movement.
- Knitted garments: Knitwear can naturally have more give than a structured woven piece.
- Waistbands: Elasticated or adjustable waists can make sizing more forgiving.
- Tailoring: Jackets and structured pieces may require more attention through the shoulders, bust and waist.
- Silhouette: Relaxed, oversized, slim and fitted garments are intentionally designed to sit differently on the body.
Most importantly, don't become too attached to the number.
The best size is the one in which the garment sits the way it's supposed to and you feel comfortable wearing it.
What If You're Between Two Marc Cain Sizes?
This is where we'd look at the garment rather than automatically telling you to size up or down.
If you're between sizes in a stretchy trouser or relaxed knit, there may be enough flexibility to comfortably wear the smaller size.
If you're choosing a structured jacket or something closely fitted through the body, the larger size may give you the better silhouette.
But there's no universal rule.
We'd rather help you find the size that looks and feels right than tell you that you should wear a particular number.
It's also worth remembering that Red Pearl stocks several European designers, and sizing isn't identical between brands. Being an N3 in Marc Cain doesn't necessarily mean you'll take the equivalent size in every other label in your wardrobe.
How Should Marc Cain Clothing Fit?
Marc Cain is known for combining contemporary European design with wearability, and the intended fit depends very much on the individual piece.
With a tailored garment, look at how it sits through the shoulders and across the body. It shouldn't pull or create tension where the fabric is intended to lie smoothly.
With trousers, comfort matters just as much as appearance. Walk around. Sit down. Check how the waistband feels when you're actually moving rather than judging the fit from a few seconds standing in front of the mirror.
With knitwear and more relaxed pieces, consider the silhouette the designer intended. Going down a size simply because there's room in the garment can sometimes change the way it's meant to fall.
That's something we encourage our customers to do in-store at Red Pearl: spend a little time in the clothes.
The right size should work when you're living in it, not just when you're standing still.
Don't Be Afraid to Try a Different Size
We've said this before when talking about building a wardrobe you genuinely love, and it's worth repeating here:
Buy the garment that fits, not the number you wish was on the label.
European sizing can feel unfamiliar when you're accustomed to Australian sizes, and Marc Cain's N system adds another layer to that.
But the number itself is largely irrelevant once you're wearing the garment.
If an N4 sits beautifully and the N3 pulls in the wrong places, buy the N4.
Nobody walking past you knows what's written on the label inside your jacket.
They'll notice how beautifully it fits.
Shopping for Marc Cain Online in Australia
Shopping online obviously removes the opportunity to head straight into the fitting room, which makes good sizing information even more important.
If you're buying Marc Cain online from Red Pearl, start with the conversion chart above and then check the individual product information for anything that may influence fit.
If you're still uncertain, get in touch with us before ordering.
This is particularly useful if you already own Marc Cain. Tell us the size and style you have at home, how it fits and which piece you're considering, and our team can help you compare.
We're not interested in simply getting a garment into your shopping bag.
We'd much rather help you choose something you'll actually want to keep wearing.
New to Marc Cain? Start With Your Usual Australian Size
If you've never worn Marc Cain before, don't let the unfamiliar N sizing put you off.
Start with your usual Australian size:
AU 6 → N1
AU 8 → N2
AU 10 → N3
AU 12 → N4
AU 14 → N5
AU 16 → N6
AU 18 → N7
Then consider the cut, fabrication and intended fit of the particular garment.
Once you've found your Marc Cain size - and become familiar with how different styles work for you - shopping the brand becomes considerably easier.
And there's a reason we see women return to Marc Cain season after season.
Beautiful clothing is only truly beautiful when you feel good wearing it.
The label tells you the size. The fit tells you whether it's right.
